We finished up our Fathers assignment this week. Fathers, just like mothers hold a special place in our hearts. And in many of the photos we saw how important they are in our lives.
Our winner this week was able to evoke the idea of a father through the symbolism of boots. mariselafm's photo managed to bring through the idea so strongly for all of our judges, and the use of an item rather than a person made that even more difficult, so well done! As one judge said, “Sometimes things can hit us with feelings or memories of parents like nothing else” and I think that really sums up why this one was our winner this week.
Our first runner up was a collage of shots that all came together was one to tell a story. upalom00's “The Little Photographer” told a lovely little story not only about how a daughter was learning to use the camera, but also how a father shares his hobby with his family. The expressions in this were great, and it really brought a smile to our faces.
And last but not least was JaiCatalano's “Stay at Home Dad”. What parent hasn't been there? An exhausted father, a crying baby, only a few minutes to take a photograph. This was one shot where the emotions were clear, so it was our final runner up. Well done!
It's almost too easy to take a cheerful, happy shot. So this week our topic is a little more difficult. We want you to show us Sadness. People are the obvious subject here, but places and things can also evoke a feeling of sadness and we want you to bring this emotion through in your photos this week. As always, a quick reminder of the rules. First, your photo must have been taken between 11-25 May 2011. Second, your post must include the word “Sadness” and the date that the photo was taken. Finally, your EXIF should be intact, and it's useful if you can include some of the main points, such as camera, lens, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc.
Next week our assignment we're going back to the basics. By focusing on some of the basics we can transform snapshots into good images. So this is the first of several back to basics assignments. Next week we will be focusing on Landscapes with a focus on Foregrounds. See the first post in this thread for some useful links to check out.
