June 13th meeting

A lifetime ago (was it only seven months?), we put the LAPC on hiatus until June.  Well, June is rapidly approaching so I wanted to put some thoughts in your brain ahead of time.

First, we will meet in person on June 13 at 1:30 outdoors at a park TBD (suggestions welcome) unless circumstances change for the worse.

The biggest item on our June agenda is to elect new members to the Executive Leadership Team. As per bylaws changed before the pandemic, this team of five, which includes the secretary and treasurer, is responsible for the overall running of the club, rather than the President/VP structure we had previously.  Last winter, due to the pandemic, we amended the bylaws to postpone electing a new team until the club was able to function again.  Now is that time.

Shared leadership is not difficult, though it does present a different mindset.  You get to bounce ideas off each other and no one shares the whole burden.  The incoming team can decide how it functions best as long as all goals of the club are met as per the bylaws.  If you have great ideas for the club moving forward, I urge you to consider putting your name on the ballot in June.  You can do so by contacting any current ELT member or noting your interest in the comment section below.  If you do decide to run, we may ask you to speak to your vision for the club as it rises from the pandemic and reforms.

Opportunities for committee chairs and members will also be available and you can also indicate your interest in those in the comments before, though they are not elected positions.

As a member of the outgoing team, I can say we began 2020 with great enthusiasm and many new ideas for the year.  We were stopped in our tracks by Covid 19.  Having only been together a couple months we were still defining our roles within this new structure.  I do wonder where we would have gone without the challenges of the pandemic. The new team will still be faced with some challenges from Covid, but hopefully those will be much less than this past year.

The current ELT has not finalized plans for the June meeting beyond the election but we hope to have a fun activity that will get folks back in the club spirit again.  Since we will be outdoors, Covid protocols for that meeting may be more relaxed; look forward for more info to come.  At this time I’d just like to say two things:  politics has no place in the LAPC and I hope we can all focus on putting the well-being of all club members first.

Looking forward to gathering again with fellow photographers.  My camera has been mostly gathering dust for the last year!  And just a reminder, membership dues paid in 2020 are good at least through 2021.

Further updates to come.
