Student Photography Contest

Emerging Visionaries: ENTER NOW!

A student photography contest hosted by The Iowan magazine.

The Iowan
magazine's first-ever student photography contest is an open competition for student photographers of any age who are enrolled in any Iowa educational institution for any part of the 2011–2012 school year. This includes K–12 schools, technical schools, colleges, and universities (public or private).

The Iowan is looking for the best work from a student's portfolio. The word photography means “drawing with light.” Show us the art of photography — a moment captured by the lens, a feeling contained in a frame, an experience brought into focus. Deadline is Friday, June 15. Visit <> for complete rules and entry information. Finals are over and school's out, get your entries in today!

There are no entry fees and no purchase is necessary.

Don’t hesitate to contact me should you have any questions, [email protected].

Please feel free to share, copy, and post this information wherever your students might see it. Spread the word!

To preview the type of images The Iowan selects, visit <>. There you will find several feature stories and departments. Our May Portfolio department featuring our favorites from the 2011 Iowa State Fair Photography Salon is posted there. Among those chosen (without our prior knowledge) were the works of three youth photographers that appear on our cover, table of contents, and on page 53. Sometimes the best photography comes from fresh eyes!
